Uptown has a long history of being the place to go to find entertainment in Chicago. Early film stars, including Charlie Chaplain, shot movies at Essanay Studios on Argyle Street. A wide range of theaters and music venues like the Green Mill Lounge helped jumpstart the jazz and big band era. During prohibition, this was a sure place to find a speakeasy. This postcard recalls the flashy marquees of Uptown's heyday.
